Privacy policy
Effective 30 September 2026
reFUSED is an amp-control app. It works with your guitar amplifier over a USB cable. This policy describes everything the app does with data, which is very little.
What stays on your device
- Your presets, setlists and rig state are stored only on your device. Deleting the app deletes them (export them first with Share if you want a backup).
- The USB connection to your amp never leaves your phone.
- Wire diagnostics (the USB traffic log used for troubleshooting) never leave your device unless you tap "Share diagnostics" and choose where to send it.
- The tuner uses the microphone, only while the tuner screen is open and only after you allow it, to hear the pitch of your guitar. The sound is analysed on your phone in real time and is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere.
- The app contains no ads and no analytics SDKs, needs no account, and does not read your contacts, location, camera, or files outside its own storage.
The AI tone feature (Premium)
Only the "Describe a tone" feature talks to a server. When you use it, the app sends our server (running on Cloudflare Workers):
- The text you typed, for example a song, an artist or a description of a sound.
- A random install id: a UUID generated on first launch, used only to apply fair-use limits. It is not derived from, or linked to, your identity, your Google account or your device identifiers.
To answer, our server uses these AI providers under their business API terms:
- Google (Gemini) reads your request and designs the amp settings.
- Anthropic (Claude) does the same if Gemini is unavailable.
- OpenAI researches the gear on a recording when your request names a song or an artist. It receives only the artist, song, part and era, never your install id.
Our server keeps the resulting settings, keyed by your request's text, for up to 30 days so the same request is answered instantly, and it keeps the gear research about songs so it can be reused. Neither is linked to your install id. We keep usage counts per install id for rate limiting. We do not sell or share your data, and we cannot identify you from it.
If you never use the AI feature, the app sends nothing at all.
Purchases
Premium purchases are processed entirely by Google Play Billing; we never see your payment details, name or email. To unlock Premium, the app sends the purchase token Google Play gives it (with your install id) to our server, which checks it with Google Play and returns a signed pass that the app keeps on your device.
Google Play Billing, the Google library inside the app that handles purchases, sends Google technical logs about its own calls (whether they worked, connection problems) so Google can run and improve billing. Google's privacy policy covers that data.
Deleting your data
Nothing reFUSED keeps is linked to your name, email or Google account, and what is on our server deletes itself:
- Usage counters for your random install id (the fair-use limits): gone within 40 days.
- AI answers, kept under the words of a request so the same request is answered instantly: gone within 30 days.
- Which song or artist a request named, kept under the request's wording: gone within 180 days. Research about the gear on a recording is about the song, not about you, and is kept to answer future requests.
- Purchase tokens are checked with Google Play and not stored; an anonymous count of recent checks expires within 48 hours.
To delete everything on your phone (presets, setlists, the install id and your Premium pass), uninstall reFUSED or clear its storage in Android Settings > Apps > reFUSED > Storage. A purchase stays with your Google Play account and comes back when you reinstall.
To have your data on our server deleted sooner, email support@refused.app with the subject "Delete my data" and, if you can, the requests you typed. We delete what matches within 30 days and confirm by email.
Children
reFUSED is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.
